Crowdpurr is entirely web-based from the experience Dashboard, to the Presentation View, and the Participant View. To connect to your experience (e.g. Trivia Game, Bingo Game, Poll, Social Wall, etc.) your crowd simply opens up their mobile device (e.g. smartphone, laptop, tablet, etc.) and navigates to crowd.live by entering "crowd.live" in their mobile web browser's address bar. The crowd can also search "crowd.live" in a search engine like Google or Bing. They can then enter the experience Code from your experience. The experience Code is shown at the bottom of the Presentation View. You can also email, text, or verbally announce to your audience the experience Code.
Additionally, you can email, text, or display the full URL to your experience. The URL format is simply crowd.live/12345 where "12345" is your experience Code. So if your experience Code is "ABC123" for example, the full URL to your experience is simply crowd.live/ABC123.
After entering the appropriate code or clicking on the direct link, your participants will be taken to our Participant View.
Crowdpurr allows you to always edit or remove any participant which immediately removes their participant name from any publicly displayed leaderboards, etc.
For text-based answers to trivia and poll questions and social wall posts, you can enable answer-review where the host must approve of the answer before it is posted to the trivia game, poll, or social wall. Additionally, you can always edit, remove, or reject participant responses.
Crowdpurr also offers additional AI-powered features to automatically censor or reject participant submissions it detects use profanity or are offensive.
Yes! Crowdpurr is designed for you to practice as much as you want in order to learn the platform. We want you to feel comfortable ahead of your actual event, which is why we give you 30 days of access for every upgrade.
There is no consequence for practice runs. You can practice as much as you want on any experience. You can play through an experience and easily reset it when finished so it's ready to go for another practice run or your actual event. Resetting simply removes all existing crowd responses and puts your experience in the initial state. It does not remove your added questions or answer options. There's no way to "mess up" your experience by practicing. If in doubt, reset!
To learn how to reset an experience, check out Resetting a Trivia Game, Resetting a Poll, and Resetting a Social Wall.
Yes! Crowdpurr is meant to be used by your team for multiple events. Crowdpurr offers our Crowdpurr for Teams feature that allows you to invite your team members via email to create their own Crowdpurr account and then access your account's shared experiences. You can set permissions on which experiences your team can access and what permissions they have on each experience.
Additionally, you're free to create and run as many experiences simultaneously as your plan allows. This includes from your own single login or using your invited team of hosts.
Yes. When you upgrade, Crowdpurr gives you 30 days to learn, set up, practice, and execute your interactive experiences. You will only be charged once when you upgrade unless you set your Premium Plan to Automatically Renew. If you no longer wish to be charged, you simply need to downgrade your plan before your current thirty-day license period ends.
You cannot purchase or upgrade to any Premium Plan for less than a thirty-day period. For more information check out the article How Does Crowdpurr's Subscription Billing Work?
The experience Dashboard is the first of three main web-based components of Crowdpurr. The experience Dashboard is used to create, build, configure, and ultimately run your interactive experience (e.g. Trivia Game, Poll, Social Wall, etc.). It is accessible from any web browser by logging into app.crowdpurr.com and then choosing any experience you've created. You're also immediately taken to the experience Dashboard of any newly created experience.
The experience Dashboard is designed to be shown on the main laptop or computer screen while you connect an external projector or HDTV to display the Presentation View of your experience.
You may have multiple "hosts" or users log in with the same credentials to edit and run separate experiences created under the same account.
The Presentation View is the second of three web-based components of Crowdpurr. The Presentation View is used to display an overall presentation-style view of your experience (e.g. Trivia Game, Poll, Social Wall, etc.) that is designed for your entire audience to see while they also use their mobile devices to interact.
The Presentation View makes it easy for your crowd to quickly see the current question, the live answer results for the question, the correct answer, and the live rankings (for a Trivia Game). As a host, you can control what the Presentation View shows at any time.
The Presentation View is designed to be shown on a connected projector or HDTV. The Presentation View is opened by clicking the large "Presentation View" button in the upper-right corner of the Experience Dashboard. This will open a new browser tab that can be dragged to any connected external display device (e.g. a Projector or HDTV). If your computer is in "Extended Desktop" mode, you can then display the Presentation View on any connected external device for your crowd to see and keep the Experience Dashboard on your main laptop or computer screen for you to use to control your interactive Experience.
The Presentation View is optional and is not required. Everything your crowd needs to see is also available on the Presentation View in case your crowd is not located in the same geographical location (e.g. conference room, presentation hall, etc.)
The Participant View is the third of three web-based components of Crowdpurr. The Participant View is what your audience sees on their mobile device when they join your interactive experience (e.g. Trivia Game, Poll, Social Wall, etc.) by going to crowd.live in their mobile web browser. The Participant View allows your audience to enter an Experience Code, which will take them to the sign-in page of the experience. They can then enter personal information like their nickname for Trivia Games, answer questions, play trivia, view results, and see live player rankings.
The Participant View works on all major mobile devices such as iPhones, Androids, iPads, Samsung tablets, laptops, Microsoft Surface, Macbook Pro, and Macbook Air. All that is needed is a modern web browser such as Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Microsoft Edge to join the experience.
As a host, you can test out the Participant View by clicking on the blue "Participant View" button in the upper-left corner of the experience Dashboard under the Crowd Views. This will open an actual Participant View of your experience in a desktop-based web browser window. You can also test by simply using your actual mobile device to try out your experience exactly as your crowd will use it.
No, we do not. We've found that the most friction-free experience for your crowd is to simply navigate to a URL in their mobile browser (e.g. Safari, Chrome) on their device versus having to search for a native app in the app store, put in their credentials to download, wait for the download, wait for the install, etc.
With Crowdpurr, you simply navigate to crowd.live and enter your Experience Code.
Our platform is designed to handle this scenario. Upon waking up their phone, the participant will be taken back to exactly where they left off or wherever the experience is currently at. Even if it's hours or days later, for example, the next day at a multi-day conference.
No, your crowd can use their cellular data connections as long as your crowd size isn't so large that the geographical area's cell tower coverage cannot support the crowd size (this is unusual). Most metropolitan areas, especially hotels and conference venues, have adequate cell tower coverage to support up to several thousand users. Additionally, you and/or your event space can provide WiFi access for your crowd. Most major hotels and conference venues provide high-end WIFI to support the capacity of their event space.
The experience Dashboard and Presentation View take about 2.2 megabytes (MB) to download the first time to your computer/laptop. This download only occurs once. Once downloaded, making updates to the game is extremely bandwidth-effective as you're only sending small user commands to the server (e.g. next question, show live answer results, etc.) These instructions are on an order of Kilobytes (kB) (i.e. very small), so you don't need a high bandwidth connection to run the game.
The Participant View for each user is about 600 kBs (so just over half a megabyte). This is quite small and downloads quickly for most mobile devices whether they have a 3G, 4G, LTE, or WiFi connection. It may be slightly slow on a 3G connection (e.g. up to four seconds). Similar to the Dashboard and Presentation View, once the Participant View is downloaded, answering questions and getting updates from the experience is extremely small. Usually a few kBs per instruction.
Crowdpurr is designed and performs well for any type of connection - as long as there is a working connection to the Internet (e.g. WiFi, cellular data, etc.)
Do be mindful that most consumer-grade WiFi routers can only handle 10 - 20 connections before overloading. To support several hundred (or thousand) simultaneous connections via WiFi, you will need access to an enterprise-grade WIFI system. Most convention centers and venues that advertise WiFi provide the necessary performance to support their venue's capacity. Because WiFi may often be unreliable, we recommend participants use their cellular data connection if possible. Most cellular data connections provide more than enough bandwidth and require fewer steps (e.g. joining a WiFi network, entering a password, etc.) to join in your interactive Experience.
Note: If your Experience has a lot of participants and thus participant responses, processing data on the server may take several seconds (e.g creating the Ranking Leaderboard in a Trivia Game). This is regardless of your Internet connection quality or bandwidth. It may appear that data is taking several seconds to load, but it is just processing on the server to be delivered to your Dashboard or Presentation View. This is normal with high-participant experiences (e.g. a few thousand and above).
Yes! On-site tablets (or smartphones, laptops, desktops, etc.) can be logged in to your interactive experience to allow participants to sign in with their lead-capture data (e.g. "Enter Your Email") and complete the experience (e.g. Trivia Game, Poll, etc.). Afterward, the tablet will automatically reset for the next participant in line!
Additionally, you can hide the experience's URL Bar on the Presentation View so that participants may only join your interactive experience by using your on-site devices. Or you can display the URL Bar so that participants may use both on-site devices or their own mobile devices.
Yes! Your Trivia Game can be accessed by anyone in the world on the Internet. Additionally, you can log in to your Crowdpurr account from multiple locations to open multiple Presentation Views to display at different gatherings of players separated geographically.
We have an entire section dedicated to this topic. Please check out the help section Connectivity & Setup.
An experience is any interactive application created in Crowdpurr. Trivia Games, Bingo Games, Polls, and Social Walls are all Experience Types. You can create multiple Experiences up to your plan's Experience Limit, which simply refers to the number of simultaneous Experiences you are allowed to create and run at the same time. If you're on the Classroom Plan, for example, you may not create more than 10 experiences. However, you can run, test, and re-run experiences as many times as you'd like. They do not get used up or run out per se. If you reach the Experience Limit of your plan, you simply need to delete some of your older experiences or upgrade to a higher plan. Check out the article What is an Experience? to learn more.
You can use Crowdpurr for online quizzes and trivia games. Your participants can be anywhere in the world as long as they have Internet access. Crowdpurr works perfectly fine without a "centralized" audience or screen (e.g. Presentation View). All data (e.g. questions, answers, live vote results, correct trivia answers, rankings, leaderboards) is published and available on the Participant View for your participants. You can even do hybrid events where some participants are at a live event and some are participating remotely. Or even mix multiple different live audience events at various geographically separated locations!
When you create a poll or trivia game, it gets assigned a unique "Experience Code" for your participants to join in their browsers (from their mobile phones, tablets, computers, etc. - it doesn't matter what kind of device is used). You can then share/email/tweet a URL based on that code. So if your code is "123XYZ" your poll/trivia URL would be:
crowd.live/123XYZ
Or your participants can simply visit crowd.live and enter the code 123XYZ.
When sharing an Experience online, keep in mind the total participants of your Crowdpurr Experience. Your plan's Participant Limit will still be enforced and you may need a higher-level plan to accommodate a wider audience online. If you're sharing worldwide, you may have more participants than you think. You can always reset polls or trivia games at any time to allow more participants, but that also resets any existing scores.
You can also customize your experience Code if you're on the Seminar Plan. Check out Customizing Access Codes For experiences
Additionally, you can actually use a Custom URL if you're on our Conference Plan. Check out Set Up A Custom URL For An experience
The Participant Limit refers to how many people can participate per interactive experience. For example, if you're on the Seminar Plan, your audience size limit is 500. You're also allowed to have 25 experiences. This means that each one of your interactive experiences could have up to 500 people participating at the same time.
Your interactive experience(s) will not allow more participants past your Participant Limit. Any participants over the limit will receive a friendly message stating that the interactive experience has reached its participation limit. You can always reset an experience to allow more participants, but this will also reset any existing experience data such as rankings, votes, scores, or posts.
If you do reach the Participant Limit on an experience, you can upgrade to a higher level plan to immediately unlock and raise the limit on all of your experiences.
We're working on adding an option to automatically upgrade your account to the next plan if you go over your Participant Limit. This should be available soon.
When you first create an experience, it comes with a unique five-digit code that your crowd must use to access your experience. This prevents anyone on the Internet from joining your experience without knowledge of your unique code. At your event, the Presentation View visually displays your unique code to your audience. However, if you broadcast, tweet, or otherwise share your experience Code on the Internet or elsewhere, then anyone who knows the code could possibly join, but only while your experience is "Live." Keeping your experiences "deactivated" while not using them is a good practice to further prevent unwanted participation.
Crowdpurr takes customer and participant data privacy very seriously. Crowdpurr never rents, sells, or provides your response data to third parties and never will. Because you are trusting our service with potentially private and sensitive information, we would consider it a violation of your patronage to financially benefit from your personal data. All of this is outlined in Crowdpurr's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
The Crowdpurr platform uses best-in-class security technology. Your data is 100% secure, private, and protected using the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. We use the highest grade of encryption (SHA-256 AES/CBC mode encryption) to protect client data across SSL (secure socket layer) protocols. That is why you see the green padlock on the URL in your address bar when using Crowdpurr (in both the experience Dashboard and the participant Participant View). The padlock signifies that any sensitive data you transmit to us online is protected, safe, and secure from hackers and SQL injectors, for example.
In compliance with GDPR, all of your event and participant data may be reviewed, exported, and/or permanently deleted at any time including your entire account.
We are also in the process of obtaining our SOC2 Type 2 Data Security certification, which is the most stringent data security protocol in the business.
Yes, Crowdpurr is compliant with GDPR regulations regarding empowering online users with visibility and control over the data they submit to websites and Internet applications.
Crowdpurr host-users have complete visibility and control to review and manage all of their experiences and participant data including the ability to export and delete their data. Additionally, host-users can permanently delete their account and data if desired.
Crowdpurr participant-users can also review and manage all of their submitted votes and trivia answers including having the ability to export and delete their data. Additionally, participant-users can permanently delete their account and data if desired.
All of Crowdpurr's legal agreements are available for review in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Crowdpurr's platform is hosted on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. It's one of the largest and most secure cloud providers in the world. It's used to run massive services like Netflix, Lyft, and Spotify. We use multiple server instances for robust application redundancy and each server is tested for several thousand simultaneous crowd-members using the platform. Additionally, we have a team constantly monitoring our servers' health. We have years of experience perfecting our platform and have seen every type of situation, from major crowds and large companies to small niche experiences, and improved our platform because of it. It is very, very unlikely the servers will go down during your event. If they do, it's likely AWS has gone down in some way, which likely means half the Internet is also down. AWS (and Crowdpurr) are very quick to restore any outages.
